In this example piece, a direct mail postcard is being created to target prospective university students. Various elements of the piece, including text, photos, and colors are being modified conditionally, based on each student’s field of interest. The final result is a totally customized set of postcard mailers, each containing highly targeted imagery and messaging.
This example uses many of the standard DesignMerge Pro features, including the built-in Rules Module for setting up the conditional logic (if/then/else) required to craft such a targeted piece, and the CopyFit module to guard against overset text, which is very common in direct mail applications. The Pro Pack is a set of utility functions that have been integrated with the software. All of the utilities are script-based, and each utility is designed to perform various variable data tasks, such as case conversion. The Pro Pack is also required for the development of custom Rule Actions that can be created using JavaScript. Example scripts are provided.
The Scripting Module enables the full scripting API for the software. This module is required for automation projects, and is also required for integration with the Enfocus Switch workflow automation software.
Provides additional export and reporting functionality, allowing all tagged data to be exported into a database format that matches the structure of the original data file. This module can be used to extract document content for use in web sites or content management systems.
Provides additional functionality for exporting PDF files from tagged documents. Includes features such as auto-generation of product hyperlinks. The batch processing feature allows hundreds of documents to be exported at the same time. This module is perfect for PDF catalogs and online “page flipping” systems.
Provides square inch analysis reporting capabilities for tagged documents. Squinch areas can be calculated automatically, or defined by the user. Reports can be exported in CSV format, or previewed in any web browser. Includes batch processing capability.
Assists in the creation of a multi-level Product, Manufacturer or Part Number index. Index entries can be imported from existing files, or added using the product interface. Each page can be assigned any number of index entries. The overall style and structure of the index is defined by the user.
Connects to external data sources via HTTP or ODBC, which allows direct updating of documents without the need to generate an intermediate data file. Please note that ODBC support is for Macintosh only, and a separate purchase of an OpenLink ODBC driver is required (www.openlinksw.com). No separate driver is required for the HTTP interface, and the HTTP module is available for both Macintosh and Windows systems.
Automatically build document pages and tables from your database. Page “building blocks” are defined by the user and saved as InDesign documents. Supports the creation of variable-length tables for products with multiple part numbers. Requires GroupPicture Module.
