For content that is stuck in an InDesign document, this module gets the data out!
If you are like many of our DesignMerge Catalog customers, then your most up-to-date product information always seems to reside inside of your Adobe InDesign catalog pages. After all, that’s where most of the last-minute changes are being made, and who has the time to perform double-entry of data for every small modification?
If only there were a way to extract the data from your catalog pages directly into a database table, one that can be used for many other purposes. Good news – the Data Exporter module may be just the solution that you need!
The Data Exporter module allows you to organize and extract content (text, picture, and styling information) from any Adobe InDesign documents that have been prepared using DesignMerge Catalog software. This powerful module extracts the tagged data and organizes it into a data file format according to a set of predefined specifications. The extracted data can then be used to populate Web, e-Commerce, or Digital Content databases.
Data Exporter is powerful enough to handle even the most sophisticated requirements, easily taking on complicated product associations, such as multiple SKU’s which all share the same description or price. In addition, style-sensitive text formatting and translation table support permit export of complex numeric data, such as fractions.
Like many of our DesignMerge Catalog customers, you probably have your publication broken down into individual pages, spreads or sections. No problem. The built-in batch processing features of DesignMerge Catalog can be used to process each InDesign document in turn, allowing you to extract all of the content from your pages in just minutes.
Data Exporter is designed to export content tagged with our DesignMerge Catalog software. If you are not ready for DesignMerge Catalog, or do not need any of the advanced data updating and versioning features, Data Exporter can be operated separately. We provide a Tagger module that allows you to identify all of the content in your InDesign document, just like the full DesignMerge Catalog product. And if you decide to add the full DesignMerge Catalog software in the future, your pages will be tagged and ready to go!
