DesignMerge PDF Imposer is a very powerful and incredibly fast imposition tool that works directly within the Adobe InDesign application. The software can handle the most common imposition types (Step and Repeat, N-up Variable Data, Cut & Stack, Duplo/Label Sort, and 2up Saddle Stitch Booklets), but has been designed with special performance features that are ideal for high-speed, multi-up imposition of personalized variable data output produced by DesignMerge Pro, or any other VDP system. PDF Imposer can be licensed and installed as a separate, standalone imposition tool, and has also been very tightly integrated with DesignMerge Pro software, allowing you create fully imposed, personalized PDF output in a single operation.
First, Design Your Imposition Template…
PDF Imposer utilizes imposition templates that are created directly in Adobe InDesign using our Imposition Designer interface along with our unique Imposition Frame™ design technology. This new and patent-pending design approach provides virtually unlimited, flexible and super-precise control over the design, layout, cropping and positioning of your imposed items.
Each Imposition Frame serves not only to define the placement and ordering (sequencing) of the imposed items on the page, but can also serve to define the specific cropping area to be applied to each imposed item as well. Separate trim and bleed marks can be added automatically by our Imposition Designer tool, but of course because the designs are created within Adobe InDesign, you are free to add your own elements to the Imposition Templates, such as color bars, special registration marks, grid/die lines, and the like.
Once your design is complete, use PDF Imposer to quickly export and create a reusable PDF Imposition Template that will serve as the base for all similar impositions. Build up a library of your most common Imposition Templates, and feel free to share them with other PDF Imposer users.
Then, Impose from Adobe InDesign…
The imposition process is initiated from within your Adobe InDesign application — just open the PDF Imposer panel, select your PDF file, choose your Imposition Template, and click a button. In seconds you have a perfectly imposed PDF file, optimized and ready to be sent to your press. Of course, if you are producing variable data using DesignMerge Pro, just choose an Imposition Template to use at the start of your PDF/VT session and the personalization and imposition happens automatically!
And, There are *No Apps* Required!
PDF Imposer does not require any additional apps (such as Adobe Acrobat) and functions completely within Adobe InDesign. The software supports multi-up impositions for N-up Variable Data jobs, Cut & Stack, Label Sort (for label presses and cutter/slitter devices such as Duplo), 2up Saddle Stitch booklets, and of course traditional Step and Repeat for static PDF files. Plus, you never need to leave the comfort of your Adobe InDesign application!

Many clients are now taking advantage of the DesignMerge Pro Page Rules features, which provides the ability to conditionally hide/show different Layers, or to apply different Parent Pages and Layouts to a variable data document. As an example, for variable letters, you can use Page Rules to automatically switch to an entirely different letter design (including different content and variables) based on user-defined conditions. Jobs like these cannot be imposed using the legacy imposition method that was provided with DesignMerge Pro, however, with PDF Imposer, ALL of these features are fully supported! Just run the job out 1-up, select the PDF Imposition template you want to use, and you are done.
So you have a whole bunch of PDF files to impose? Not a problem! The built-in Batch Processing feature of PDF Imposer allows you to select hundreds of files at one time, and impose them all using a single PDF Imposition Template.

For variable data jobs designed to be run on label presses, or processed using Duplo cutter/slitter devices, the imposed items must be sorted quite differently than sheet-fed jobs. No problem - the Label Sort mode of PDF Imposer makes jobs like these absolutely trivial to impose.

Easily create individual, unique, personalized booklets using DesignMerge Pro variable data software, and then impose them in Saddle Stitch format automatically using PDF Imposer. For larger booklets, PDF Imposer fully supports user-defined Creep values, which can be applied using Page Shift or Page Scale methods.
Although PDF Imposer has been optimized for VDP imposition, it can easily tackle any traditional Step and Repeat imposition as well, making it the perfect solution for all of your most common imposition jobs.
